Puppy Math.....

(Let me clarify that......Sparky is completely house trained. He has very few and far between accidents inside and he does not potty in his room (laundry room) or in a crate. We crate trained in a small pet carrier early on. This is now necessary b/c he is being destructive on the two days that I work for so long. So......he must wait out his time in the crate and I really hate it for him but.....can't have our house torn up b/c he's bored!)

This.....

Seriously?!!!!!

Eating, chewing, boring holes in the walls!!!!!!!

Arg!!!! Avoided putting sweet little puppy in kennel while we were gone from home.
7 holes in the walls as a result!!

Sweet little puppy now in kennel when family not home!!

UGH!! :o) Gotta love him!

Actually you'll notice that he will love the crate. We crated Phoebe as a puppy and she would go in there to nap voluntarily on days we were home with her. Be consisten with it and don't use it as a time-out/punishment place and he will think of it as his bed and be perfectly happy! The key is to get a crate that is *just* big enough for him to stand up and turn around and no bigger, that way it will be cozy and he'll like it better. It looks like the one you got is way too big (from the picture at least) which will make it more likely that he'll dislike it and maybe start peeing in the corner. This is almost 10 years of dog ownership talking, hope it helps! There are great books available about crate training if you go look for some. Good luck!

Well if it makes you feel any better, being in his crate probably gives him comfort while you're gone. I read that dogs (esp. those with some anxiety...like the type that might cause them to eat the walls!) actually need the security and safety of a smaller space. :) I like your math analogy though, very clever!

Thanks (as always) for your sweet comments and amazing support, you're the best!
